- Secure the funding to properly staff Veterans Affairs and to provide the services our veterans deserve.
This is the one issue we should all agree on: the people who served our country deserve to be taken care of once their service is over, especially if their mental or physical health suffered in the line of duty.
However, something always gets in the way of properly funding veterans' benefits, usually due to petty partisan bickering. Sometimes veterans' benefits are held hostage by tacked-on unrelated amendments, and other times Congress simply squabbles over the details. However, I don't think veterans' benefits should be a partisan issue. These benefits should be provided without strings attached.
That said, taking care of our veterans is important enough that I'll compromise and make whatever deals I need to in order to make sure it gets done right.
A properly-funded Veterans Affairs provides many services to make life easier for veterans and their families:
- Health care (mental and physical)
- Job training and education
- Housing assistance
- Life insurance
- Funeral assistance
