The Ides of March Letter Campaign

Today, I invite you to participate in a campaign I heard about from a local group, the Tanque Verde Valley Democratic Club. Here is the gist:

  • Write a letter to the White House today and mail it. The letter should be postmarked today (March 15).
  • The letter should focus on an issue important to you that President Trump is either not addressing or actively opposing.
  • Keep it short and to the point; heartfelt and honest, but not too wordy. About enough to fill one side of a postcard.
  • The letter should be handwritten.

I'm planning to focus my letter the economic impact of the proposed import tax on Mexico since here on the border we get an awful lot of our food from our neighbors to the south, but you should write about about what's most important to you. There's no shortage of topics: healthcare, antisemitism, refugees, military spending, divestment, and so on.

The address is:
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

Be sure to include your return address as well. Sometimes they send a response.

Will this be effective? It's hard to say. The White House gets literal tons of mail every day as it is, and an extra ton might go unnoticed.

Moreover, President Trump has made it clear that he really doesn't care what we think. He's a bit busy making money on taxpayers' dimes. You have a lot of leverage in business deals when your side job is being President of the United States.

Still, it's worth a try. A sudden increase in mail all postmarked on the same day might make someone take notice. I'll do my part.
